Kumar Sukhdeo, MD, PhD

PHYSICIAN · SCIENTIST · DERMATOLOGIST

Science, skin,
and the biology
of aging.

I am a board-certified dermatologist and physician-scientist with training in cancer biology, stem cells, regenerative medicine, and dermatology. My interests bridge fundamental biology and clinical medicine, including hair biology, skin cancer, ultraviolet exposure, aging, and longevity.

01 / RESEARCH INTERESTS

Questions across scales.

From molecular pathways and stem-cell behavior to visible changes in skin and hair, the common thread is how tissues maintain themselves, respond to injury, and change with age.

01

Stem Cells & Regeneration

Stem-cell identity, signaling, tissue maintenance, cancer biology and regenerative potential.

02

Clinical Dermatology

Skin and hair disorders, medical dermatology, patient education, and translation of science into clinical care.

03

Aging, UV & Skin

How cumulative ultraviolet exposure, cellular aging and the tissue microenvironment influence photoaging, cancer risk and healthspan.

02 / SCIENCE & DISCOVERY

From cancer biology to regenerative medicine.

My scientific training began in cell and molecular biology and developed through cancer biology and stem-cell research. Doctoral work focused on defining immunophenotypic signatures of stem cells, building on earlier research in oncogenic signaling and tumor biology.

That foundation continues to shape how I think about dermatology: as a window into tissue regeneration, cellular identity, inflammation, cancer and aging.

03 / AGING, LONGEVITY & THE SKIN

The skin as a model of aging.

Many of the questions that first drew me to stem-cell biology lead to a larger one: why do tissues gradually lose their ability to maintain and repair themselves?

I am particularly interested in how ultraviolet radiation and cumulative sun exposure alter cells and tissue architecture, drive photoaging, and contribute to skin cancer.
